The Meadow Wing Activity Program is designed to meet the physical, mental, social, and spiritual needs of memory-impaired residents in a stimulating and supportive environment. The Activity Program features the Aspen Club and the Willow Club, each tailored toward residents at different stages of Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia. The goal of these Clubs is to engage residents in adapted and appropriate activities at their level of mental and social functioning and cognition – ultimately building camaraderie and friendship, promoting feelings of success, and maintaining a meaningful quality of life.
Please take a look at our current monthly Meadow Wing Activity Calendar to see all the fun and exciting events taking place this month at Palo Alto Commons:
Palo Alto Commons recognizes and emphasizes the importance of a quality and supportive activity program for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. Activities provide our residents with social opportunities, meaningful challenges, and fun and relaxation throughout their day. Our beautiful outdoor areas in the Meadow Wing offer our residents the opportunity to participate in a beautiful and peaceful environment.
In the Meadow Wing, the activity program is intensive, with meaningful activities from morning to evening. New activities take place every 20-30 minutes throughout the day. Two full-time activity staff members engage residents in activities daily, and residents participate in one of two concurrent activity groups based on their level of functioning.
The Aspen Club and the Willow Club are exclusive to Palo Alto Commons and are tailored for residents at different social and cognitive levels:
The Aspen Club focuses on intellectual challenges, creative expression, and social opportunities:
- Intellectual- word games, trivia, current events/ travel discussion
- Creative- ceramics, watercolors painting, scrapbooking, cooking
- Social- discussion/reminiscing, parties, season/holiday celebrations
The Willow Club promotes reminiscing, life skills, and sensory stimulation:
- Reminiscing- story-telling, life stories, bread making, scenic drives
- Life skills- folding baby clothes, matching socks, clipping coupons
- Sensory- aromatherapy, massage, music, cooking
Both the Aspen Club and the Willow Club also engage in physical activities (walks, exercise), music and dance (concerts, sing-along), and fun and games (puzzles, card games, BINGO). There is always something fun going on in our Meadow Wing Program!
