A Compassionate Program for Residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia
The Meadow Wing at Palo Alto Commons is a specialized and dignified program for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. The Meadow Wing provides a full daily schedule of engaging and meaningful activities in a secure, friendly, and home-like environment.
Every aspect of the Meadow Wing at Palo Alto Commons is designed to create a safe and comfortable atmosphere. The charming accommodations are spacious and cheerful, and many apartments feature views of lovely gardens and outdoor pathways.
All assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and many specialized licensed nurse services are included in the monthly Meadow Wing fee. We develop a Personalized Care Plan, tailored toward each resident’s individual needs.
Here, we feature Friendship Living: shared living accommodations where residents share the simple joys of life’s daily routine. Private apartment residences are available as well. Display of personal memorabilia and photos is encouraged, as is decorating each private space with favorite furnishings and treasures. Accented with distinctive colors and visual cues to reassure residents, the activities area and dining rooms are lovely spaces for meaningful gatherings and programs. The unobtrusive security system also ensures a restraint-free, safe environment.
Staff Training
At the heart of daily life at the Meadow Wing is our specially trained staff. Each and every member goes through a rigorous instruction program to understand Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. A licensed nurse supervises the Meadow Wing program as well as provides diabetes and oxygen management and other services. More importantly, each staff member is trained to interact with residents in a manner that helps alleviate agitation, anger and anxiety. Through formal classroom instruction and direct interaction with residents, our staff learns how to provide care and stimulation with compassion and a smile. The focus of our instructional training is the application of a personalized, supportive and non-judgmental response to resident behaviors, using skill and warmth in place of medication and restraint. The Meadow Wing is staffed 24 hours each day with a staff-to-resident ratio that far exceeds federal and state regulatory standards.
Family Services
In recognition that the resident is not the only person affected by Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, an integral part of our program involves helping family members with their own challenges. Family support is extended by our staff through our family support groups. In addition, the staff of the Meadow Wing serves as a resource to families in order to strengthen care received by the residents. Each family is invited to participate in the development of the care plan and to continue as an important part of the life of their loved one.
The Meadow Wing offers an extensive list of all-inclusive amenities and care services as well as outstanding social & dining opportunities. Please refer to the Amenities, Activities, and Dining sections to see what makes our Meadow Wing a leader in dementia programming and care.
